More whining !!

So in my whine for the day (I guess today I'm hitting 2x the whine), I want to talk about my homedepot.com experience.  I ordered a circular saw for my Brother-in-law and turns out I needed to return it.

So I go to a home depot store and try to return it ... this would be one of the primary brick-and-mortar-experience-is-better-than-online things, right?  No.  First of all the return clerk didn't think she could take it, she asks another guy that tells me I need to call up the internet and the internet will tell me what to do.

So I call up the internet (want his #?) around 12/17.  They tell me they've contacted UPS and UPS will be out to pick it up.

Great.  So I wait.

..

And wait.

..

Call back between xmas and new years .. Sorry, we'll call again.

...

More waiting.

...

Call back again 1/04/07 ... sorry ... we reissued the pickup since it probably expired in UPS's system b/c of xmas vacation etc.  So it's all good now, just hang tight.

..

Hanging...

...

Call back today .. WTF!!!!  Home Depot calls up UPS directly .. they apologize and say UPS will be out tomorrow (1/12) to pick it up.

..

2hrs later I get a call from UPS telling me I've had the package for far too long and I will be charged return shipping unless I contact Home Depot and tell them to reissue the call tag.  I tell them I've contacted Home Depot many times before this and what's going on.  She says today was the first they've heard of it and unless I get home depot to reissue the calltag UPS will have to charge me.

So I call home depot, they reissue it (they have been very nice and polite this entire time) and tell me she doesn't understand why they didn't get the reissue on the 4th but no problem.

So at any rate, all parties were very polite but man oh man!!  Apparently Home Depot is updating their procedure so that you can return to stores and avoid this mess.  Until then I'll avoid Home depot.com like the plague.  Although them paying for return shipping IS a pretty nice benefit ... not many vendors offer that.

Lesson learned, you should have gotten your brother-in-law something useful - like a subscription to Maxim. Instead, look at the headache you got. Plus, if he would have kept it, only bad things could have happened...you'd be known as "the reason he chopped his arm off."

Actually I got him a jigsaw instead because my father-in-law got him a circ saw. Now he can cut both arms off, with different levels of precision. :)
