Zelda: The Twilight Princess and the Nintendo Wii

Today I finally received my Nintendo Wii and honestly I am so blown away by the cool factor of Nintendo's latest and greatest console I will pretty much declare this console in the top 3 of all time of my favorite consoles with the Dreamcast and Xbox 360.

Two weeks ago I bought Twilight Princess and it has sat on my shelf calling to me. But I really honestly did not expect the game to be anything other then a mediocre experience because of the controls, graphics and well I have really lost faith in Japanese game developers to deliver anything other then below sub par games. To say I was mistaken is an understatement.

Now I have not finished it and my wrists are to sore to continue past the 4 hour mark my initial impressions are the game is solid in every way, from graphics that fit a great art style, sound design that fits perfectly, controls that are very well done and almost perfect. This is no Windwaker thankfully, In my opinion one of the most over rated Zelda games ever and this gives me great hope in the Wii of delivering solid games for the next few years.

There are some annoying things in this game, no voice acting in my opinion was a major mistake. They did not even need to use real voices but a more gibberish voice track like other games have used. They also really needed to explain fishing, this really almost made me quit the game permanently. Zero explanation in game really and it does not make sense. Thankfully I was able to get through that and get into the rest of the game.

High Definition cables are a must, there is a noticeable difference between 480i and 480p with Zelda and I really hope they release a 1080i patch for the web browser.

I downloaded Zelda for the NES and Zelda Link to the Past for the SNES and they are IDENTICAL to the versions I have already. The controls need to be explained better but they are playable and fun. I also downloaded Alien Crush for the Turbo Grafx 16 and it is exactly the same game in every way. A solid pinball game

Tomorrow or Saturday I am going out to pick up a game or two for the Wii because I really want to try a FPS and perhaps a racing game. If you dont have a Wii and are unsure about it, trust me its so worth it and amazing fun.

I have had the Wii for a few weeks now, and I'm loving it. The 360 is still my console of choice, but Nintendo did a great job with this one. I've only played Zelda and Wii Sports so far, but I'm seriously considering Rayman's Rabbids, just for a different experience.

@cryptic - actually the experience with Zelda is worth it.. it really feels like a great way to play games.. I would love a MMO on the Wii if they could add voice chat

Agreed. I went out and rented Zelda and CoD3. I'm encouraged with the Zelda, since I've never played that genre before, but like you was curious about the FPS. I'll post my thoughts on CoD3 and we can compare notes.

I won't buy a Wii, or a PS3 this time around. Not only do I not have the time to divide my gaming over three consoles (more if you count my retro's), but for the 360 I already can't play all the games I have for it. So, I'll stay 360 this gen. I don't think I'll be missing out on much.

Falelorn, I agree with you that the Wii, the 360, and the Dreamcast are the holy trinity of consoles released to date. I'm happy you got your wii and I'm sure you will have loads of fun with it. I also have Zelda: TP, but I told my son that we're not even going to load it up until we finish Windwaker.
