Next Gen Consoles

Now that this generation is the current generation I was thinking about exactly what would be fantastic in the year 2010/2011 (2016 if Sony sticks to their word LOL) that our consoles come with. Not exact hardware because with Microsoft building their own hardware now, this generation undecided, and who knows the CELL could become the hardware of choice for all future platforms because it makes games rule, cooks and cleans and offers sexual advice during those moments when you are confused..

Physics Processing Units
A PPU would be amazing to add since it could handle 100% of the math calculations needed for physics taking the load off of the CPU/GPU and giving a better physics system they we are used to. Software based physics work, but it seems you do get more then just video slow down during heavy physics came play.

PPU could easily handle Burnouts insane car crashes with better damage and destruction modeling, Half Life and perhaps some new wacky physics based gaming and even a realistic NFL, NHL game when you hit people.

True HD(D) Storage
20 and 60 and err 2 gigs of internal storage is all nice and all, but with some insane HD content here and more coming our HDDs are filling up, so how about going to the next level with 400 gig HDD on 2 drives which the user can set up as a back up for the other, or just two big HDDs. Content such as GAMES could be downloaded, no more 50 to 500mb indie games you could let the developers provide much more media content.

Great for the High Definition TV/Movie content that both of the big companies are talking about and add a TIVO type functionality and you would be set. 

If by 2010 400 Gigs would not be enough, HDD's would be probably cheap enough to go further. But if we are given 100/120 gig HDDs ill be mad.


More Memory
512mb is good but 256mb was dumb. Especially when PC developers want 2 gig and even 4gig over the next couple of years to be a standard. While 512 in a PC is totally different then 512 of dedicated RAM in a console, we should have seen 1 gig in the 360 and PS3, especially since developers have stated even more would have been nice. But next generation hopefully they will at least match a good gaming PCs memory.

Learn from SEGA
The VMU was the single greatest controller/game innovation EVER. Why do we not see this in this generation? It does not even need to be removable it could be a small LCD display. I know the PSP and DS can be used as large scale VMU but they suck for that. who wants to look down beside them for what could be in the controller? No one..

Wii 2
Nintendo has delivered a GREAT console, I love my Wii everyone I know has gone out and gotten one and are buying games for it, but it does have 1 issue that I hope they fix for the Wii 2. True High Def and Widescreen. I have heard (but not seen) that some games do not support widescreen and some just do not look better in HD mode. They should have gone to 720p / 1080 i this generation, especially for Japan where the TV people replaced were 720p/1080i and while keeping the price down was important next generation it should have 1080p as a standard since by then almost everyone will have a 1080i/p TV

Xbox 3 or 720 or Revolution or the SonyPwner
Keep delivering the great controllers, best online system, easy to use game development tools for big and indie developers, and MORE XBLA games, make more deals with Midway, Sega, even Nintendo for their games on XBLA.. lastly GRAB NEO GEO for the arcade.. a great console we just need to see again.

Sony PS4..
We know it will come, there is no way the PS3 has a 10 year life span, the PS2 doesnt and we know this because there are very few games coming for it. Sony you will probably lose and lose big this time, but get humbled, find an engineering team to build a console which wont break the average gamer, does not cost 2 - 3 times more to develop for then your main competition and for the love of GOD, hire a person to talk for you so you do not come across as arrogant morons but lastly, stop being so Japanese. This superior isolationist attitude of yours killed Sega, hurt Nintendo for years and has really made the PS3 the butt of all jokes. PLEASE drop the lame dual shock design for your next controller it worked with the PS1 and PS2 but it is uncomfortable now especially compared to the 360 controller.

SEGA DREAMCAST 2
Take one of the best consoles ever, part of the holy 3 (DreamWii60) and come back with a new console. VMU must come back, controller plug ins such as microphones, rumble packs, extra storage, etc was ahead of its time and you need to make another big jump this time. Your online play was revolutionary and copying Xbox could not hurt you. Lastly you have some insane games sitting in your library that would make a great come back.. but we know you are making tons of cash delivering games for the other 3 so this is a big dream...
