A few weeks back I wrote in my blog about a free Senseo coffee maker that I was expecting to receive.  It recently arrived and I have used it several times and I thought others on 2o2p would be interested.

The coffee maker arrived in a well packaged box and it was stuffed with the coffee maker, a few accessories as well as some sample coffees to try.

The operation of the coffee maker is fairly straight forward - you fill the reservoir with water, turn the machine on to heat the water, put the coffee in the machine and press one of the brew buttons. What sets this coffee maker apart from a traditional machine is that it uses a coffee "pod" that is a sort of teabag with coffee in it.  When the coffee is brewed water is forced through at high pressure (similar to an espresso maker) and the result is coffee. The coffee pods come in single and double serving sizes:

There are also cappuccino, espresso, hot chocolate and tea pods available from many retailers as well as on the internet.

The machine makes a good cup of coffee but suffers from the problem of having to use preground coffee. Once you grind coffee it starts to degrade and loses the majority of its flavor after a day or so.  There are products that allow you to use your own coffee instead of the premade pods but they are more hassle than they are worth.

I don't use the system for my traditional cup of coffee in the morning but it is great for flavored coffees when you don't want flavored coffees tainting your coffee grinder and the teas I have found for the machine are wonderful.  A google search on coffee pods or tea pods will produce lots of hits for you to explore.

The final word is that the machine is well made and performs exactly as advertised. If your home only consumes one or two cups a day then this would be a great solution for you.

I found a short video that covers the basic operation of the machine:

I have had one of these Senseos for over a year. I'm really pleased with mine. Great that you scored one for free!
