Solar Fury - On HOLD

I hate those words "On Hold" when it comes to video game development because 99.99% of the time it means the game will never be returned to. But with the current state of XNA (lacking polish, multiplayer, etc) and working on a Xbox 360 game being more important then just a game, we have shelved it. To work on a puzzle game, in 2D or 2.5D with single player and eventually multiplayer.

It took about 3 weeks to decide the fate of Solar Fury, if the team would continue working towards another game (they did, because I am paying (very little) for talent) and what type of game it would be. Puzzle, Shooter, etc.. As many people know with indie dev teams if a project stalls, or a game changes the teams almost always die and fall apart.. even if they are being paid..

Solar Fury was coming along, but not fast enough, some issues with XNA caused slow down, some art pipeline issues caused delays, christmas/new years and holidays, but mostly its Microsofts fault :P You can not have a MP game with out a MP core.

So the new game, wont tell anyone what it is, but it is a new take on a old game, I have already built a "level" builder to produce the core and expect several hundred levels.

150 easy
150 medium
150 hard
300 easy MP
300 medium MP
300 hard MP

is what is expected and that may sound like a lot but it isnt. Not in a puzzle game like this.

Only thing now is to move forward with deciding on a art style (no clue what it could be) and building a working interface and getting it working on the 360 (EASY)..

At least the art this time around will be easier, cheaper, and sound FX/Music will be 1/50th the cost and I should be able to do a 1080p game as well.. lol not that it would be needed..

Hey falelorn.. you every hear of the game heavygear? im talking heavygear teh orgibnal game not hg2 its a mech style game that came out around the time of mechwarriow but was abit diffent of a concept and it was realy fun to play... a bunch of my old buddies and me have recently talked about how cool it would be to have someone remake heavygear. keep the game basicly the same just give it a facelift with better graphics and we would all by it in a heart beat!

I still have Heavy Gear actually (doenst work tho), loved it back in the day. The only way I would do a Mech Game is with a full budget, because the art would be expensive on a next gen system. But it is doable for sure and would love a real mech game (CH, AC4, etc are not mech games IMO, Im talking HG and MW (pc) those rocked)

This is why I haven;t really got into XNA yet. I'm only went through the tutorials. But since it is missing features I would like i am going to wait. Once they add in multiplayer I will definitely work on a cribbage and euchre game. Otherwise researching cribbage AI is a pain in the ass.

If it says hold on, I better be standing in line for a roller coaster. I've never played a video game that made me have to hold on to anything other than the controller...lol :)

@TheCrazyPerson - err I dont get what you mean.. lol @SirPoonga - yep and I even said should just prototype.. but I didnt listen to my self.. oh well.. actually since Tanks post on getting your game onto XBLA I think a puzzle game would get on before a 3D space combat sim.

Thanks.. I will probably start it up again when the puzzle game is done, and the XNA 2.x or higher is out and the multiplayer is in.. but its part of the business.. at least not a big cost over all
