3/11/07 - "Suicide by Train"

Copes

Shared on Sun, 03/11/2007 - 15:26

Let me start by saying that I had just got off shift at 6pm and this call came in just after that. So I missed this one but heard about it the next day at 6am at the start of my shift.

On 3/9/07, my departmant responded to a possible Train Accident hear a railroad crossing. This was called in by the rail service stating that they may have hit "something" at or near the intersection.

Well according to our guys who first arrived it was a very successful suicide my a middle age male. He just layed down across the track and waited.........

Thank god our guys and police looked up and down for several miles of track, because pieces were found approx. 1.5 miles up track. I would hate to have some kid walk up to find that..........

What would cause somebodey to do or think that it was the best way to go. ?????????

Glad I missed this one.

Icky. You hear about that happening to drunks, but wonder...How drunk do you have to be to NOT hear a train coming?

that is way icky. Did the conductor get told what he hit? I think I would prefer suicide by train then suicide by cop. Poor cops feeling bad for shooting someone...

That happens ALLLLL the time here (we have the most deaths by trains) I used to work at an Ortho office next to the tracks and the sounds were horrific. I could never get my Orthopedic drs to come out w/me and search for "parts" (they were scared).

Ya and all the paperwork that goes with a cop shooting somebody. Also the fact that they are then taken off patrol and onto desk duty pending the outcome of the investigation. All bullshit.

Eww. Sounds like it was really nasty. I had a front-row seat to a death/suicide by train about 18 years ago. I was stopped at a large intersection/RR-crossing and a train was approaching. Guards rails go down and this homeless looking guy goes walking up near the rails. I don't pay much attention, but apparently he walked around the rail and either waited to be hit or he walked into the train as it was passing. Guy got knocked about 50' into the intersection. I only realized what had happened when the train stopped and people in the next car over got a sheet out to cover the body. Not messy, just shocking.
