After reading all the hype about this movie on this very website, I was anxious to see how this history lesson would be given the graphic novel treatment. Unfortunately, I was brought back to the real-world as the previews began to roll.
The last preview shown was for a movie called Pathfinder. To see the trailer, go to the movie’s website: http://www.pathfinderthemovie.com/
Also from the website:
An Untold Story
An action-adventure set in the time when Vikings tried to conquer North America, Pathfinder tells the heroic story of a young Norse boy left behind after his clan shipwrecks on the Eastern shores. Despite his lineage, the boy is raised by the very Indians his kinsmen set out to destroy. Now, as the Vikings return to stage another barbaric raid on his village, the 25 year-old Norse warrior wages a personal war to stop the Vikings’ trail of death and destruction. Forging his own path, his destiny is revealed and his identity re-claimed.
The movie stars Karl Urban. Many of you know him from his star turn in Doom and as Éomer in the second and third films of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy.
Wait a minute? Vikings laid death and destruction in their path as they tried to conquer North America? Doesn’t sound like there’s as much historical veracity in this one as 300.
Oh, and coincidentally, there’s supposed to be some Indians in it too. Sounds like another Native themed movie starring the white guy. Why couldn't some Native youth have a heroic story in defending against the savage usurpers? I don't know about you, but I suspect that's what really happened. Why does the history of this continent and the stories of our people not have any value unless they revolve around a white man? Oh well, here’s another one I won’t be bothered going to see.
