High School, My son and Aspergers syndrome

So last friday my 16 year old gets suspended from school for fighting. My gentle giant who stands almost 6'8 let loose on another student who suffers from short boy syndrome....apparently thinking my son would just take all the name calling. When this other kid called my son a retard he snapped.

5th degree assualt and 3 day suspension.

When I picked the boy up from school on friday he was crying, thinking I was gonna be upset with him....I wasn't. I knew this time was coming.

My son suffers from both adhd and aspergers syndrome...a form of autism if you will.

Well, we're off to our so called "your a bad boy meeting" at his high school. I'm feeling as if I'm gonna go off on the staff this morning (Jikado from this site knows this is something that don't happen much if at all). Wish me luck.

my brother has asperbergers syndrome and adhd as well. he gets picked on quite a bit in school, ut he holds it together by doing kendo and karate. if he ever were to get in a fight (which i doubt he would, he's as meek as they come to anyone who isn't family) i'd feel sorry for his opponet. not many people would agree with this statement, but all a good bully needs is a good ass kicking.

It's sad that kids like yours get punished for standing up for themselves when it's the bullies how need the smackdown.

That's just stupid. Yes he must be punished for defending himself...please. My dad said this: If you start a fight I will kick your ass when you get home. If you walk away from a fight I will kick your ass when you get home. He did the right thing. IMO

well, things went alright this morning...I was abit pissed to find out this other kid had just gotten off of a suspension for another fight he was involved with the week prior. I let my son know right there in front of the staff that I felt what he did was needed, in order to defend himself. The assault remarks have been stricken from his school record.

Awesome. Glad to hear that in the end, the public school system did something right. One of my biggest fears as a parent is the day I have to ship my kid off to public education.

My 11 yr old also has had problems with bullies in school. He is a very sensitive little guy, and hates violence. The kid picked on him one time too many though, and my son leaped across the kids desk and beat the hell out of him in the middle of class. No one bothers my son anymore.
