Shared on Thu, 04/05/2007 - 14:29Took today, tomorrow and Monday off from work. Several reasons with one being that I have 3 papers due next week and I haven't worked on them all week despite knowing that they are due. Instead have been playing too much Oblivion (that game is like crack!) I finished the Dark Brotherhood quest line today. Have the mage and the thieves quest line to go from the original game. Then can move on to the new achievements related to Shivering Isle. I haven't downloaded that yet but i will.
Coming up on having gotten thru 3/4 of my first year of graduate school. I will graduate next summer ( Aug 2008 ) as long as I can maintain the current pace and follow the recommended course plan. For those who don't know, I am currently in graduate school to obtain my Masters degree in counseling - marriage and family therapy. I would like to eventually work with those who have been affected by grief and loss. At least that is my current focus. I have personal experience in this area having lost my mom to cancer when I was 22 (nearly 20 years ago) and most recently lost my older brother (last May). My brother died from complications related to liver failure (not due to drinking either...he had gotten hepatitus C a while back and that resulted in developing cirrhosis (spelling?) and that killed his liver. He would have been 44 last June.
Playing video games is a form of escape for me and one way I like to relax and disconnect from bothersome stuff. I would love to figure out a way to incorporate my love for video gaming into my therapeutic practice when I get to that point. I think it would definately be a way for me to connect with children and adolescents, something we might enjoy in common and help to develop the type of relationship necessary for therapy to be helpful. I have thought that The Sims might be a good way to help kids tell their story much like using dolls has in the past in therapy.
Enough "wasting" time. Should get to work on my papers.
