Shared on Sun, 04/08/2007 - 20:51Well its been a crazy week for me in the Cub Scouts.First we have a leaders meeting that ended with the Committee Chair quitting and the Pack Treasurer quitting also. Then me announcing that I wasn't returning as a Den Leader next year and planned on staying on as a Committee member.Well after the Committee Chair and the Pack Treasurer quit.I was nominated myself for the Committee Chair position, even though it turned out that was the plan after all.For me to be the new Committee Chair, in other words I run my Cub Scout Pack now.Its up to me to make the executive decisions and be willing to all the gripes and groans from the Den Leaders and from the Cub Master.I get to approve all trips and expenditures and help the pack grow. Also I wound up with 3 dens to run till the end of the school year.Bears scouts which are 3rd graders and the current Den that I was in charge of, Tigers which are 1st graders and need alot of attention when trying to help them earn their beads to earn their Tiger badge, and the Webelos which are 4th and 5th graders. They are somewhat easier to teach than the other two, plus their one scouting level away from becoming Boy Scouts. The leaders of tomorrow and so forth, etc, etc.
The stress level on me for all this is a little wild but I think I can handle it, the hardest part of it though is all the training I've been doing over the past few days on the Boy Scouts of America web site.I have probably done more training this week than anyone else has all year in my pack for anything.I'm hoping now that I've done my training the nervous feeling I have will come to an end and I don't have to really worry about screwing this up beyond all belief. When I talked to our district rep about the position after I took it.He said the best way of learning the job of Committee Chair is to do it and learn from you mistakes.Plus any additional committee training I take will help to.Also follow the Cub Scout motto "Do Your Best!"
I have to agree with him on that doing my best is what I plan on doing. The next fun part is planning the rest of the year and hoping to God nothing else can go wrong.
gop out..........
