Root Canals and Tennis Racquets

Tomorrow morning at 7:00, I am going to the dentist for a root canal.  I have been putting this off for over a year now.  I was suppose to go Tuesday morning but my dentist doesn't accept our new insurance so I canceled again.  It turns out that one of the girls that plays on the softball team I help coach has a mom that works in a dentists office.  I was talking to her and she said that they accepted my insurance and that she would get me in.  I didn't know it was going to be at 7:00 a.m.  but that is okay.  Now basically I am a big baby when it comes to dentists.  This is probably why I am going in for a root canal instead of a filling.  I haven't really been in 15 years.  I think I am more scared of what this is going to cost me.  I know the root canal won't be cheap because we just started this new insurance and it doesn't completely cover root canals for a year.  I am also scared of what other problems they are going to find.
The good part of going in at 7:00 is that I can get some stuff done after the appointment.  I help coach the softball team at the high school I teach at.  This time of the year is real busy.  Not much free time.  I need to run some errands.  I have to be back at the school by 2:00 to start getting the field ready but that should allow me some time to run some errands and do something I have been wanting to do for a few weeks.  I am wanting to go tennis racquet shopping.
I have never really played tennis before except goofing around until here recently.  As a teacher, I get a plan period to basically get things done around school.  A couple of weeks ago one of the teachers suggested we go outside and play a little tennis during our plan period.  I had a ball.  We have played 3-4 times now and I am loving it.  I am going to a nearby town that has a couple of tennis shops and I am getting a racquet tomorrow.  I have been using the schools beat up, cheapo racquets and they suck.  I borrowed one of my students, who is on the tennis team, racquets and what a difference a good racquet makes.  Now if I can just figure out what to get.  Any tennis players out there who can help me pick out a new racquet?

Good luck with the procedure. If the dentist will allow, take an ipod or mp3 player, it will help keep you mind off the goings on!

Have you ever had a root canal done? I've had two, and a redo, and all I wanted to do after was lie down and nap until the anesthetics (novocaine & sedatives) fade. Then again, I have PTSD from dental work, so...good luck with the after plans.

The PTSD is from childhood dental work. Just a friendly message, all the work and drugs usually does a number on me. Plus, with a numbed mouth do you really want to be out in public? I'm not sure an ipod would help as the through-skull drill/tool vibrations will be very loud (depending on the tooth being worked on - front being a litte less than back). Your mileage will/may vary greatly - good luck.
