A guy that I teach with offered me a summer job. For years, he has run a 2 week camp for high school kids. It is a career camp where they bring in students from surrounding counties and expose them to all types of different careers. The spend the day visiting different businesses and going to classes. They get to spend a day at Dollywood. I would basically be babysitting these kids. There are 30 kids and 6 counselors. I would have to report on a Sunday afternoon and would not get to come home until Friday afternoon. I do this for one week, take a week off and do it for another week. It pays $2,000 a week. Now I could use the money. I just don't don't know if I want to commit to it or not. The money would be great but that is also 2 weeks that I would not be around my family. My kids are my life and that is a long time to be away from them. I have to let the guy know by lunch.

It's only for two weeks this summer. Not every other week. this is a two week summer job. But since the post, he came back and said he was wrong on the pay. It is $2,000 for both weeks. Don't need the money that bad.

If you really need the scratch then 2 weeks isn't too bad.

21 weeks out of 52 in a year totally away from the family? I don't know if that's worth it man. It may start out okay, but I bet after 10 weeks away it will start to put a strain on you and the family. Too bad you have to let the guy know by lunch - that really doesn't even give you much time to discuss this with your family?

If you are leaving on Sunday and getting home on Friday then you are only going to be gone 5 days every two weeks. That's only 130 out of 365, about a third of the year. You would be getting paid 100k a year. You would be getting paid about $33 an hour to babysit. If you are only going to have to work 21 weeks then it is only 105 days. That would give you almost one month less you actually have to work and $41 an hour. Work 5 days and off nine? Get paid 104k? Only 21 weeks of actual work (and a 5 day week)...I don't know why you wouldn't take it.
