A slow and painful death

So I think I've committed suicide, also known by the phrase 'signed up for a soccer team'.  My god man.  I played soccer for 9 seasons as a young lad. I loved it, but was never that good. I was always on defense.  I still remember, one game the coach rewarded me by letting me play forward, and right at the start of the game I got belted right in the face with the ball and never wanted to play forward again.

So on this new team, it's a city league co-ed team, so there are people of all different skill levels.  We didn't have a goalie so I volunteered. Leading up to our first scrimmage Sunday, I was scared shitless, having never played goal before.  Fortunately at the last minute, our captain recruited someone with experience to sit back there. So now I have to figure out if I want to play defense, as I did for 9 years back in the day, or try my hand at forward. As it turns out I played mid/forward on Sunday and scored 2 goals, with 2 more shots that went wide. I have to asterisk that by saying they did not have a goalie, just the old 'someone run back into the box' scheme, so one of my two goals was scored on an open goal from way,way out.

There are some more experienced guys on the team who I'm sure will be doing most of the dribbling/shooting/scoring, but I think I'll try my hand up there. I'm not in the best shape, but not in the worst shape on the team either. I held my own Sunday, and it was hot as HELL. I was however completely exhausted and in pain by game's end. Hopefully these serious leg pains will go away in time for my game tomorrow night.  I'll update if there's anything good to share, but if I get my ass kicked royally there probably won't be a blog about it.
