Shared on Sun, 06/10/2007 - 16:57I read this on bloomberg.com this morning regarding the speculation of an Xbox360 Pricecut: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601205&sid=an_wjSge1RpQ&refer=consumer
For the last two "generations" I have primarily owned Nintendo consoles and later bought a second console deep into the "console cycle" when there were significant price cuts. And then I just played catch-up on all the great games that I had missed originally. This is mainly because I generally find it very difficult to part with money (i.e. I'm a cheap bastard) and the thought of buying a $300 Xbox (at the time) and $400 Xbox 360 makes me ill. I wouldn't even entertain the idea of a PS3. So I made a conscious decision to buy both a Gamecube ($200) and Wii ($250) at their respective launches. And I am not even a giant fan of the Nintendo franchises. Mario is OK. I love Zelda. I like Metroid. Donkey Kong has become a kids franchise. Pokemon...forget it. On some level I regret choosing the Gamecube. There games that I loved, Eternal Darkness, the Resident Evil games, Animal Crossing, Rogue Squadron, but there were far more Xbox games that I loved. The Gamecube, for me, was so-so.
So the thought of an Xbox360 pricecut...say by $50 or, gasp, $100, makes my mouth water. Don't get me wrong, I really like the Wii...I think. I mean, I loved Zelda:TP. But other than that I haven't been gaga. Maybe I don't really like the Wii...I'm not sure yet. I know I like the idea of the Wii...the concept. But I know that missing out on Halo 3 is going to be painful.
I'm praying for a nice pricecut.
