Terror on the Highways

This past weekend my wife and I headed out with a truckload of furniture we were moving to another location. My wife drives, primarily because she wants to live. We left at about 7 AM, and at 7:20 I had assumed my usual position - head up against the window, shades cock-eyed, and sound asleep. Somewhere out of the fog, I hear,'"We just lost something blue!" So I come out of it, look in the rear view mirror, and we have launched a blue Rubbermaid box onto the highway. Of course, it is filled with Moonstone glassware from the 1940s and about 7 vintage purses. Good news? We didn't kill anyone and only lost about $30 worth of glassware. Bad news? three of the most expensive purses were run over a multitude of times. Even worse, I'm half asleep and dodging cars trying to clear the road. OK, drama over; back to my job of checking for wind noises from the window.

Thirty minutes later,"Something brown just went overboard!" Now when something brown launches, this cannot be a good thing. I personally strap every load and check for suspect areas. But, I had one little wash stand I was determined to get on. I tied it down like I always do, but apparently the wind at 70 mph shifted the load, the air caught the washstand just right, and over she goes. This has happened to me only one time before, now twice in one day? So, I jump out of the truck, and that bad boy had literally exploded. Fortunately, the traffic was very light, but the thing was in 30-40 pieces. The only thing I really recognized was one of the doors and a drawer. Another 35 bucks is gone, and I would have gotten at least twice that for it. Sooo, I clear the highway and get back in the truck. At this point I'm thinking,"OK, let's just unstrap everything, and when we get there, if anything is left, we'll unload it!"

The rest of the trip was uneventful, but I didn't get as much sleep as I usually do.

On the side, yes. Working up to full time. It makes it harder when you display your stuff on an interstae highway. Wrong kind of traffic.
