Game Pricing

Hey Microsoft and Game Developers, here' s how you should be pricing games:

Great Single Player Experience = Up to $20. Example: Oblivion.  In this generation Single player is still important, but it's not everything. No significant single player?  Make the game less expensive (I'm looking at you , Shadowrun).

Great Multiplayer Experience = Up to $20. Example: Rainbow 6: Vegas.  Should have a ton of replayability, balance and continued support (patches to fix issues). There is no excuse for multiplayer to suck now a days, it should be as well thought out as the single player.

Great Gameplay Mechanics, interface, etc. = Up to $15.  This should be a given in every game.  If you choose to ignore this, your game won't sell anyway. If you game suffers gameplay or interface problems, it should immediately get a discount of $10-15. Examples of bad gameplay: Bulletwitch and the "Loading Area" screens on Oblivion

Great graphics/sound = Up to $15. I'm talking immersion here.  Gears of War type graphics or F.E.A.R. type sound (disclosure: I played FEAR on the PC with headphones, your milage may vary).  I am willing to pay more for great graphics and sound, but don't neglect one or both of these and expect me to pay "next-gen" prices.

Under this pricing scheme, I'd be willing to pay $70 for "The PERFECT game," but I've never seen the perfect game.  I have seen a bunch of games priced at $60 just because they are "next-gen."  Developers need to realize that they will make more in the long run if they are realistic about their games and what they are worth.

lame...\r \r let me poke some holes in there goof\r \r Oblivion would never have been made if it sold at 20 bucks.. 200 hours for 60 bucks is a great deal.. suck it up princess\r \r Rainbow 6 Vegas is completely balanced.. in one teams favor on each map pretty much... whats wrong with that *snicker*\r \r loading area screens in Oblivion? Ok.. you sit down and write a new streaming engine that can pump out those graphics, fit on a DVD9 and never load in game... im waiting... \r \r yes we need better sounds and music.. FEAR rocked.. Condemned Rocked\r \r can I say english.. Im gonna TK you

i think he means add all those up to make 1 price. so if all of those sections were spot on, by his standards, the game would cost $70

Apparently you misunderstood the *adding* concept. Under my scheme I would have priced Oblivion at $20 for SP + $0 for MP + $10 for Mechanics (loading screens I didn't like, inventory was good overall, fighting was fun, etc.) + $15 for graphics and sound. So that comes to $45. \r \r Yes, Oblivion is worth $60 since the SP clocks in at 100-200 hours, but how many games offer that much content (uh, 1 on the 360)? That's kind of like saying Halo 2 MP is ONLY worth $20 and I'd get skinned for saying that. Oblivion was an example of a game that had great SP so got the max score. As far as R6, yes it is unbalanced, but it has a ton of replayability and has been well supported by the devs.\r \r It's a guide, not a rulebook and there will always be those games that break all the guidelines.
