I remember 1993 like it was only 13 years ago... one of the best games ever written (I say written because the focus of the game is the humor) was Sam and Max Hit the Road. Sam was a gruff, no-nonsense Police Dog in a blue suit and Max was a naked bunny with an attitude. I guess there's a new version out that is available via download from Gametap. I've never used Gametap, but I might be tempted to now.
Anyway, just in case anyone else has played the original, I wanted to reminisce with y'all. My favorite part of the game was sort of an easter egg. For those of you who don't know, you navigate through S&M (pardon the pun) by looking at things, or performing actions on things (such as picking up an object or using an object on another object). Pretty basic stuff.
My favorite dialogue in the game was only prompted when you tried to pick up an object that Sam (the dog) couldn't actually lift. It went a little something like this:
(command Sam to pick up a desk or a car or similar heavy object)
Sam: I can't pick that up.
(repeat command)
Sam: I told you I can't pick that up.
(repeat command)
Sam: Are you deaf? I can't pick that up.
(repeat command)
Sam: READ MY LIPS. (Sam's lips commence moving randomly while the following words are spoken off-sequence) I. Can't. Pick. That. Up.
(repeat command)
Sam: I give up. (Sam begins whimpering like a puppy on his first night in a strange home.)
Max: Now you've done it! You've broken Sam's will to live with your repeated attempts to have him pick up that heavy object! In fact, if I didn't find his pathetic whimperings so amusing, I'd be tempted to come out there and belt you one!
... or something to that effect. Great gaming moment in history for me.
