Back in the day when Xbox live debuted I was online playing Ghost Recon within an hour of picking it up. An hour after that I learned first hand what “Griefing” was. Then one evening I came across a room of guys playing Siege with no respawns. It was like heaven. Everyone was talking strategy, congratulating each other on good games and having fun. It was great. That group stayed together for at least a year.  Some of the guys loved the expanding community we formed so much some of its members would go on to form Team Compete. I still have some of those guys on my friends list.

Later some of us would meet again on Halo 2. This was around the time some of us formed and joined our first clans. We started with The Glitch. A fun group devoted to exploring the maps and having fun. There isn’t a tower or peak or hole on the map we didn’t explore. As time went on though that group fell apart as fewer and fewer people could stand the hacking and cheating on the main servers. While we all new the map glitches, we kept that knowledge out of the ranked matches. I stopped playing for a while until I heard about the Geezer Gamers. I hooked up with a Clan called the Late Night Geezers and rediscovered the joy of playing with more mature gamers.

Halo 2 and Ghost Recon still remain my favorite online games. But over time you grow tired of the old games and need something new. I am understandably excited with the impending release of Halo 3. I also am looking forward to COD 4. COD 2 was one of the first games I picked up with the 360 when it first came out along with three other games. COD2 was the second game I put in and I didn’t touch any of the others until I was done. At the time the multiplayer component was non-existent. So I never got pulled into that side of the game.

Jump forward a year and growing tired with the lack of really appealing online games and the short and ultimately lacking experience that was GOW. Yes I loved the single player and Co-op. But I never liked the multiplayer. Then I came across the 2old2play site. Somebody on the Geezers forums was talking about Shadowrun and the lack of interest in that community, but mentioned 2old2play seemed to have more people interested. So I checked it out. I joined up and found some folks to play Shadowrun with.

I love it here, but more than the great group to play online with it’s the community on the website here that has kept me coming back. I joined up with the 2old4duty guys because they were looking for some Shadowrun players. I have not been online much lately. I guess I am waiting for Halo 3 and COD4. I recently got a little promotion though for participating in the group. Even though I feel like apart from Shadowrun and my posts on the clan forums I haven’t been getting involved as much as I would like. But that’s what I love about this community it gives back to you. Just like those guys and gals I started playing with way back in the beginning on Ghost Recon who wanted to create a community for gamers.

Man that was a long entry. Slow day at work.

If you only play online a few select games, its best to get into a clan or two so you who are like minded in game preference. That way you'll always have people to play with when you get online for a game. I find games live and die fast here if you're just looking for random 2o2p people to play online with. Clans are the way to go. I just got Shadowrun as well but Overlord is occupying my time. I think Shadowrun will be my August game at least until the end of the month.
