Renting Games With Online Services

Just wondering how many of you use companies like Gamefly?  A buddy that I work with has been trying to talk me into joining up.  I did in fact take the plunge the other day and immediately chickened out.  I just can't make up my mind if this is the right thing to do.  If I am going to join, I would join with the 2 game deal so that is $23 a month.  I don't even know if this is the total price or if tax is added.  $23 a month equals $276 a year.  That is 4.6 new games a year I could buy.  I usually like to buy used if possible so some of the 10 games I own only cost me $20.  There are some games out there that I would like to play that I just can't talk myself into because I am afraid I won't like it in the long run.  Overlord looks like a blast to me but is it worth $60?  I just don't know.  But then again do I pay $23 a month and keep it for a month or two and return it unfinished only to wish I had it 4 months from now.  I just can't make up my mind.  Anybody else out there like me sitting on the fence?  Anybody else that was sitting on the fence and made a decision one way or the other?

I would never use gamefly just because I'm too impatient....

I use gamefly. I get one game at a time. It was going well until recently when I've been struggling to get relatively current releases.\r \r I think it's good in that you'll try games you normally would not have. It's bad because as TDrag said, you have to be patient. \r \r I don't see myself being a subscriber for more than a few more months.

I use gameznflix, only b/c I like the idea of renting both movies and games and it's cheaper - 8.99/1 out, 12.99/2out, and 16.99/3 out.\r \r They have a distribution facility close to Nashville, so it comes quickly when shipped/\r \r So, what's the drawback? Availability. The bad thing is it is inconsistent - sometimes you can get it right away and it's great. Other times, it takes forever and I give up or switch to something else.\r \r They do seem to be pumping a lot of money back into the company now, and have a dedicated customer support line (it used to be only e-mail and online support tickets). They also told me on the phone they just paid a company to research them and give feedback on how to improve, and the inventory seemed to be the central issue, so maybe things will be getting much better.\r \r Either way, it's cheap enough if you want to try it for a month or two, it can pay off or you can realize it just is not cutting it. Rent a game instead. It costs less when you can rent a game to decide if you like it, then buy it. Around here it's $6 for 5 days of rental. For that $23 I could rent 4 games. Chances are I would find at least one I would want to buy. Even if I didn't what are the chance you would have time to play 4 different games a month, if they were any good you would play them longer than a week. And you would run out of ones you wanted to try very quickly. I would rather rent, then buy.

I am very impatient. For instance, Bioshock is coming out Tuesday. I doubt people using a rental service will get it Tuesday. I might be wrong but I want to play it Tuesday. I live in a very small town and nobody has current games for rent so that is out of the question. Bear, I will check out gameznflix. I like the cheaper part. Decisions.....

I've both Blockbuster and GameFly. Both cost the same, but with GF I get two and BB only one. GF recently opened a new distribution center in the Northeast, but that apparently doesn't help someone like me living in the Southeast (might be faster for you if you are in TN), so mailings take a week both ways. BB is local, so almost immediate, but they have an inventory issue (don't have new games, don't have enough of a new game). I'll probably give up BB shortly, and maybe cut GF to one out. I'm just not a very active frequent player to bother with the 'rental game'.

I always had good service with gamefly. The problem i had was not enough good games were coming out that I wanted to play so it wasnt worth it anymore,. but this fall with all the new release, that might change. I have been thinking about resigning up. But as far as the service, gamefly was great for me. I tried games'n'flix and was very dissapointed. But thats just my experience.\r
