It's been a little bit since I have posted and I thought I would use this post to play a little catch-up. Most of my time has been occupied playing Bioshock. If you haven't had a chance to sit down with this one yet, believe the hype, it's an outstanding game. The visuals, audio, environment, and characters all combine for an incredible gaming experience that is not to be missed.
I have also reserved my copy of CoD 4. This fall / winter is turning out to be an exciting time in video gaming. There are MAJOR releases hitting the streets that will empty our pockets and keep us occupied.
Life
I began my role this week of software architect and it has been an excellent week. The people I am working with are all extremely talented and focused. It has made my transition in to my new role much easier. It was also refreshing to be out of the confines of my old employer. There was virtually no opportunity for me to branch out and try anything new and my work hours were pretty horrendous on top of it all.
My oldest son started kindergarten this week and it is a pretty surreal experience. I thought I was prepared to start sending my children off to school, but wow, it has been an awkward time. My son is loving it though and it has made it easier on me. There are so many things you worry about as a parent and adding school on top of it brings a plethora of new worries.
He has made a lot of friends and has a great teacher so he is really enjoying it.

One of my favorite applications was recently given a cease and desist order by Microsoft. AutoPatcher was an invaluable tool for applying hotfixes and updates to newly imaged machines. It was also a great tool to have when relatives called for computing help and you needed to apply all the latest updates but didn't want the headache of downloading over dial-up or a less-than-stellar broadband connection. While I can understand Microsoft's position, it begs to ask the question while the commercial vendors of these types of software are allowed to continue.
Companies like PatchLink, Shavlik and BigFix all provide the same service as AutoPatcher. Of course Microsoft decided to strike at the heart of the freebie service. I know for a fact that at least two of the three companies listed do not pay any kind of licensing fees to Microsoft or any other vendor for that matter to redistribute their content. Maybe it's because they have customers with cash, but it seems they would approach the commercial outfits for licensing rather than flat-out shutting down a very convenient freebie service.
Last, but not least...some OSU news:
Bars get ready for Ohio State fans
I am sure you may have heard a lot of cable companies have not picked up the BigTen network yet, so many fans will be without their OSU football. Such is life for me, I live in the SEC conference now. :-(
