Shared on Tue, 09/04/2007 - 21:34So today I saw that on 2old2play that some people didn't think to much of the psps. I at first could think this as well as I only know 1 other person with a psp besides myself. But using that logic, I would say the same about the DS as I only know 1 person with a DS as well.
I would say that at this point in my life, 60% of my gaming is done on a portable (psp at the moment) and in the future it may end up being 90%. My wife and I are in the process of adopting and I don't see that helping me get anymore gaming time of any type :)
I had a DS at one point. The problem I had was, the graphics, sound, and gaming subjects never grabbed me. Nintendogs, Brain Age, Pokemon, etc all where boring. I think the graphics and darker games really draw me more to the psp. The promise of future games being streamed thru the ps3 to the psp even blows me away more!

I find the time to play games at work, while waiting for the wife, in between meetings, etc. The biggest problem I have tho, is it has to be in short increments.
I have found 2 truly great portable games on the psp. One is Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee, and the other is Burnout. Both these games fulfill what I think needs to happen for a portable game to work.
1. Must be playable with no sound (I run audio for many occasions, it would be bad if they could hear my games, and I have to have my ears open to hear what is going on in the room)
2. Must be able to turn on and off the game and not have problems picking up where you left off.
The DS has many games that fit those requirements, but the games where always not my style or to kiddish. The only game I ended up loving on the DS was Animal Crossings. It was like non-violent diablo...that game was a trip. My wife and I would play in the same world. We would buy each other gifts and leave each other little notes. It was a lot of fun!
The only problem with the DS was, outside of Animal Crossings it had no games.
The biggest problem with the PSP is, most of the games don't fall into this portable category. Most of the games for the psp demand to be played in hour long sittings. I don't mind playing games this way, but when I pull out Loco Rocco and I can't remember what I was doing, it sort of invalidates the portable gaming purpose.
Square needs to bring some of its turn based stuff in to fix this. I can't wait for the new Final Fantasy Crisis, but they need to bring on Front Mission as well.
Anyway besides the games, the 2nd reason I got rid of my DS was I love the media features of the psp. Last week our car had a hickup and had to go into the shop. I started playing a game when I remembered I had a web browser. I then went to a car site I like about my car and was able to ask a few questions while my mechanic came back with an estimate. I also had a few numbers of some alternative places in case I didn't like what the garage had to say.
I also like the fact that I can keep my macs bookmarks, pictures, and music sync'd. The whole remote play thing hasn't worked that great for me however. I think that I might need more bandwith.
So that is my rant about the psp. It's a great machine, unless you like kiddie games like the DS has. Just kidding. :)
So I am off to try out Warhawk. I just got back my credit card (thank you identity thieves) and I hope to meet some of you online. I also hope to remember to post more then once a week....
