I decided to change its name to something a little more appropriate, as well. Generalized Superiority Parapesselitism Disorder used to be an acceptable name because I believed I suffered from most of the conditions I had in the run-on name, most notably a Superiority Complex, elitism and pessimism.. but I lost the superiority complex and elitism years ago when I realized they just caused a lot of arguments and when I realized that we're all good at something so I have no right to act like I'm holier than thou.
High Anxiety Gamer.. now that's perfect because that's exactly what I am.
Anyhoo, I ordered the Blue Dragon OST today and it made me think about a discussion with a co-worker nearly 10 years ago, when I was working as a midnight shift supervisor for a small data entry company and I had just gotten my hands on the Final Fantasy 7 soundtrack. The co-worker, who was in his early 30s at the time, came in and asked what I was listening to on my headset. I explained it was the soundtrack to Final Fantasy 7, and then had to explain that it was a video game.
"A soundtrack to a video game? Why the hell would a videogame have a soundtrack, it's not like it's a movie," was his response before he went and got his coffee and returned to his section of the building.
I find this attitude still exists, and you can most notably see it in the rants by Roger Ebert about video games as art. As far as entertainment goes, however, I find video games to be much more satisfying than sitting through some no-brainer hollywood action movie sequel (I'm looking at you, Rush Hour 3) and musically, video game scores have become as good as hollywood blockbuster movie scores.
