To iPhone or Wait for Next iPhone...

So, yes, I am an Apple fanboy, but not one who was waiting in line in June for the $600 latest and greatest.  I've had the same treo for 2.5 years and let's just say I am using epoxy now to keep it together.  I heard a rumor about this week's iPhone pricedrop, but I did not think it was going to be $200.  I heard from it all my early adopter friends, and the $100 credit from Steve Jobs helped settle everyone down, but they knew what they were getting into back then.

Early on I decided to wait to see if they would turn out a second model in January with access to 3g and bump the storage up too.  But the price drop certainly does make it tempting.  The thing is I know they will drop out a new beauty in January.  We'll see if my treo or I can hold out until then!

I never buy any electronics until there are several versions already out. This is for several reasons: the price, the perks, and of course I want them to get all the kinks worked out before I splurge. **This excludes Xbox stuff...lol

yeah I knew they were going to release a new version in the beginning of the year. I didn't however foresee a pricedrop this early, nor as large. Great marketing ploy though. You get all the "look at me and my new toy" people early with whatever price you want, because people will certainly buy it.. and then you can knock the price down and tempt the rest of the population who rationally couldn't justify the purchase. Maximize those profits ;) I'm unfortunately with T-mobile and cannot get out of my contract for another 2 years, regardless of the poor service I get in my area after moving. Otherwise I'd be getting the next iteration of the iPhone.

giga - have you been keeping up with the unlocking? Supposedly there is a software only unlocking tool at www.iphonesimfree.com that has received a lot of attention recently and the demo I saw was from a t-mobile user who unlocked the phone to use it on that network. Might be worth checking into!

hmm.. no I haven't seen that. I would be curious as to the function carryover (such as unlimited text) and how all that will work. I'll definitely check that link out. I sent you a FR too btw.. it was somewhat obligatory since you're in Memphis as well . :D
