Tribal council time

Our business has fallen on some tough times lately and this week, pretty much every department is finding out that they will be experiencing some headcount reduction.  My department is going from 8 people down to 5.  Because the 5 roles are being newly defined, each of us has to interview to keep a job -- and 3 people will be shown the door.

This has created an interesting team dynamic -- like something out of a reality TV show.  Our once unified team is now finding its members secretly and subtly posturing to keep a job.  There are lots of instances where you see two team members in an office with the door closed.  It's like the Survivor episode before tribal council.  I'll be spending most of today looking through interview questions and formulating my answers...

Here are a couple of the drawings we did in class in the style of Dr. Seuss.

This is def a situation where nice guys finish last. Usually they want to see you fight for your job....they translate that into loyalty in some twisted fashion. Good luck!

You need to create an alliance and stab 'em in the back near the end - they'll never see it coming...

That's a pretty hardcore way to downsize...Kinda shitty actually. It sounds like management wants you to blame yourself for not getting a job rather than them being blamed for making the decison of who gets to stay. I'd have a hard time believing that they don't already know who they're keeping...

@TDrag - I'm pretty confident that they have a person in mind for each role, but for legal or appearance reasons, they have to approach it this way. It has me feeling pretty anxious. I'd like to just fast foward to the end of the month.
