I also told my wife I have no desire to have him get into videogames. I work at a church and about 75% of the kids I know who are into video games are not normal. They are slow thinkers, and they can't adapt to new ideas as fast as other kids.
I think most of this is because games are WAY to immersive for younger kids (under 18), and unlike the games we played growing up, the new games define the virtual space enough that kids and teens no longer need to have an imagination to play the games. I think that is one reason that more people like todays games then in the past. In the past the games required a high level of suspention of disbeilief. Now, they are fully defined worlds. They pull you in and make you stupid. They can make you feel like you have done things you have never really done.
Granted this doesn't effect everyone, but it is surprising how many people I see behind mentally that play games.
All that being said (remember people, it's my theory not a scientific fact) I saw two amazing game trailers that could be educational:
I don't think any info has been released about these games, but it could make learning really fun. It could finally be a good use of all that PS3 Cell Power! I would love it if our new son could learn about oceans and nature thru games. I love the thought of games being a learning tool. I can see games being a learning tool in school in the future.
Anyone else share my views?
Yeah, anyway I am 35 now. My brain is ready for warping...bring out the games I don't want kids playing!!!!
(it's not hypacritical because I am an adult and they are children....I can say and do as I want :) )
