Shared on Fri, 10/05/2007 - 11:09Its Friday and Im going to keep trying to post up new work every week. However, since Halo 3 is now out and not "new" anymore Ill be adding other subject matter to my posts besides Halo. Although Im sure there will continue to be an emphasis on Halo based pieces. because there are still a number of the pieces I did before launch that I didn't finish. I will be trying to finish most of them and will post them as they get completed. Also there is the multi page collaboration Im working on with Darth Cestual that will be coming down the pike as well soon. :-)
I have gotten some PM's and XBL messages from members asking about purchasing prints or originals of some of the Halo pieces I have posted here in my Blog. Im working with Doodirock on a way to accomplish that and tie it into a way to fundraise for the site at the same time. So stay tuned here for more info on how that might be possible very soon. :-)
Thor was never one of my favorite comic book heroes growing up or in the present for that matter. He always kinda struck me as boring and dated with all the "holier than thou" style of talk. Thor is to the Marvel universe like Superman is to the DC universe and heroes that are "invulnerable" lack drama in my opinion, because they lack vulnerability. So when the new relaunch of Thor hit this year I wasn't all that interested. I picked up the first book and to say that it blew me away would be an understatement. The art is spectacular. Olivier Coipel is really kicking ass on this book!! The story is top notch and dramatic. His speech is Heroic and Historical without the dated "cliché" styling. Im just loving it. They also updated his costume and his over all appearance in ways that make him more contemporary yet classic and communicate his power and stature. If you want to see some of the art take a stroll over to the comic book forum and peek in the Thor thread. I posted some pages there. I highly recommend this book. The third issue where he obliterates Iron-man and finds an old friends soul in the body of a Katrina victim is an instant classic in my opinion. My favorite line from that issue is when Thor says to the beaten and defeated Iron Man:
" Give your orders and ultimatums to those who choose to obey, or are too cowardly to fight. NOT to me. Or learn again the difference between a god of thunder...and a man in a metal suit."
Now that is BADASS!!!  ( note to all the non-comic book geeks in the hizz house, yes Iron Man's technically still a good guy in the Marvel Universe. However, he has become a bit of a Fascist dictator, ruling over all the heroes by way of government regulation of super-powered beings. This confrontation takes place when Iron Man tries to makeThor sign on to his SuperHero registration act or face imprisonment. Needless to say Thor rains some serious pain train down on the tin man. And he folds like a cheap piece of Tin Foil, BWAAAHHHAAHHA   )
So anyway the book inspired me to start an illustration of The God Of Thunder. So here is the pencils I did yesterday. I might throw some color on it in a day or two. We'll see.
