Thinking about getting a Wii.....

We have been thinking about getting a Wii for Christmas.  (I know, a long way off but I'd like to get one before the crazy shopping rush.  I hate crowds and shopping anytime after Thanksgiving drives me nuts!)  I think my daughter would get a kick out of some of these games and between hubby, myself and the kids I think it will give us some memorable gaming moments together.   What I'm wondering is what games are the best?  I've heard the sports games are the best.   I've done some searching on the web but was hoping some of you who have the Wii could give me some suggestions.   Help please.

I think the wii would be good for the kidos too. It will let them interact with each other and involves more body movement than just your thumbs.

I've had a Wii since launch and have come to the conclusion that it's only fun as a party system...I always pick Xbox over Wii. But that's just me. There are plenty of people that love all the games on it. The Wii Sports is definitely great and doesn't get old...Tiger Woods is pretty cool. And then the only other games I think I'll pick up for it are Super Mario Galaxy which is due out soon...And Mario Kart which will be some time next year. I've also heard Metroid is good, but I only played it for a second in Gamestop...

There was a Wii at the LAN (and why do I smile everytime I say Wii), people pretty much playing it non stop. I did not try it because I am a Halo geek and afraid to try new things (like vegetables). I have read several things that stated kids love it, so I do not think you could go wrong there. Don't let them get too attached, once your kids are old enough I want to tbag them 2old2playHALO style.

TDrag, I suspect I won't play it much unless it is with my kids (I'll still be playing my Xbxo diligently) so I guess I'm looking for games that enhance its unique style of playing, not necessarily the old stand-bys like Zelda, or Metroid Prime. Although good games (I had them for my Game Cube once) I'm looking for the "party pleasers" for the whole family to enjoy and compete against each other. Spar, if I teach my daughter right she'll be pwning all you "old farts" by the time she progresses to Halo. I will also have taught her the fine art of a gentle peach punch, as all the ladies will be doing by then. :) :) :)

You should start looking now for one because they always sell out within hours if not a day after a retail store actually gets stock. Nintendo has said they expect supply problems through the holiday season. So the holiday rush is just going to make it even harder to find one, so start looking now if you really want to get one. As for the games, pretty much most of the 3rd party stuff is crap. Wii sports is good, the mario, zelda, metroid stuff is all good. In general though it seems like 3rd party devs are still trying to figure out how to use the controller to make the games fun and not frustrating. SO for now i'd stick with 1st party games.

Making the Miis was alot of fun when we first got the wii. You should get a few laughes from doing that. I'll have to say that Paper Mario is good.

As Tank said, start looking now. I would just stop in at Walmart, Target, etc. hoping to get there on the day they had received a shipment. It is your best chance to pick one up. I wasn't interested in getting one until I saw my 4 year old play one along with my wife and they had a great time. Now we have one basically for the two of them.

Wii, last year we got one for Christmas, and I agree with many of the above. It is a great game for kids, but I lean towards xbox. However, I got my mom and dad to bowl, and play tennis in about 5 minute and they are in their 70's and have never played a video game, so anyone can do it.Boxing is funfor couples really work out the issues! ;-) I LOVED Zelda, and we will be getting Mario Galaxy for Mrs Speedbyrd. Get a recharge kit or NiMH batteries cause you will go thru lots.

Wii with just Wii Sports is a lot of fun with the family, so i'd say go for it. Its still a little hard to find, there are some mailing alerts you can subscribe to get notification when they get available let me know if you're having trouble finding one.
