Keats said it first when he took a turn on the urn. Bono popped the question on Pop.

But in this day and age can it possibly be correct? Was it ever?

"Beauty is truth"

I believe it is simply poetic. But to say that it is untrue would not be right either. In general I don't totally agree that "Beauty is Truth," because we have all had experiences where "beauty" was far from truth (in the sence that Truth=Justice or Truth=Good). "Beauty is only skin deep," comes to mind--if I may be so cliche. There is the sense that it could be true. If we are talking about the "beauty" of life, the "beauty" of love, or the "beauty" of self, then maybe you could convince me that beauty is truth. But, in this day in age it doesn't seem like there are too many "truths" out there that are creating beauty or any "beauties" that are defending any truths either.

I think beauty should equal truth. The continuing deterioration of what passes as beauty is what's screwing up the equation, however.
