I have had a love-hate (mostly hate) membership with them for some time and finally gave up a few months back (after receiving free months because I complained about the service).
At first it was good - there were enough decent movies to keep me interested, and I actually received some newer game titles really fast. And obviously the price was great. But then I ran into the inventory issues that so many other experience with everything on hold in perma-queue. A friend and I both tried in each of our accounts for different consoles and movies and worked our way up to about 20 titles with nothing to show for it.
I almost let it expire, but I saw they had re-designed the website as well as some news stories about how they put a good amount of money back into the company plus they actually activated a customer support line. I called in and after some discussion I received a credit back toward my membership. So, I took advantage of this and continued to monitor my queue. They did spruce up the site, but they did not seem to do the same on their inventory. As soon as my credit was used, I cancelled my membership again sending in some comments on how I would be the first one to re-join should they improve their inventory levels.
So, it's been a couple of months - I give them a call to check on 2 popular game titles but there are none in stock. Shocker. Why not just stock the top 10 movies and games or maybe the top selling 20%? Having the unique and big selection of titles is nice, but there is definitely a space for a company that just stocks the top 20% of games and/or movies and keeps a very healthy supply. I would gladly pay for that service and use my local stores when I am hunting for a smaller or more unique title. Those are also the same titles to which previously played or watched copies versions bring the most money. Seems logical to me.
Anyway, if there happen to be any more unknown sites that offer a combined game/movie rental service that I somehow missed - please let me know!! :D
