A disturbing trend

I have noticed that some folks here are losing their jobs around the holidays, myself included.  The company that I was with has decided to close up shop leaving it's employees screwed this holiday season. This is not good, as I am sure the ones that have lost employment already know. Decent jobs are real hard to come by this time of the year, and mortgage companies, power companies, etc. don't want to hear that you have been laid off. They will tell you that they are sorry for your misfortune, and to an extent I appreciate that, but unfortunately it does not put cash into my checking account. My thoughts and prayers are with all of us that are in the same boat this holiday season. I hope that soon after the new year, if not before we all find something that will suffice, if not exceed our expectations.

The thing about the seasonal work is that if I accept a job, my unemployment benefits will cease. So that 5.50 an hour job will essentially make things a tad worse. If I accept a job it needs to be one that will last longer than a month or so, and is at least close to what I was making hourly to be worth it.

There's lots of seasonal work people can get this time of year to ease the burden until January. But ya we're heading into a recession, next year could see a significant rise in layoffs.
