HD Televisions and ghosting.

A few months ago I made the jump into High-def and purchased a 27" Olevia brand LCD Television. Goes up to 1080i. Its a pretty sweet little set and displays games and HD movies like a frigging champ.

There are 1 or 2 problems I have with the television that I wouldn't have known from looking at it in the store.

1.)The remote sucks. The channels change about a full second after I press the button. Same with changing inputs.

2.)Ghosting while viewing regular DVDs.
Never really noticed it until I started watching movies more frequently, especially darker lit movies like Aliens....etc.

At first it didn't bother me, but then it seemed to become worse...if thats possible. Or maybe Im just really picky and can see it alot more than I should.

My main dvd player is my xbox 360. Which is connected through the component cables straight into the T.V.

So I tried it through my PS2, which is plugged in through the RCA. I notice it a bit, but not as much, I guess because its not a digital signal, then I got the HDDVD player add-on for my 360 so I gave that a try. Still some ghosting...

Is there any way to eliminate ghosting or at least tone it down some so its less noticeable? Again it only happens when I play regular DVDs. Not HD or games.

Any input would be great. thanks.

I have an Olievia 26" I bought last November. Yes the remote sucks balls. I don't have any ghosting on my main 50" HDTV, but it's rear projection. I think it's just the quality of the Olevia. Kinda get what ya pay for I guess. I got mine for the bedroom and it's sufficient for it's intended purpose.

yeah for the price I can't complain too much. guess I'll just have to upgrade to a projector at some point.

Ghosting is usually slow refresh rate.

I think that Tank is making the point. I don't think it's the quality of the screen so much as the refresh rate on LCD's. They inherently have this type of problem. I am assuming one important thing though and that is that this "ghosting" is apparent on MOTION. If there is no motion and everything is moving slowly like a couple of people just standing there talking there should be NO GHOSTING at all. LCD's "ghost" and that's that. If you can get the refresh rate down to 5 milliseconds you will not notice it. Not many are that low, but more are getting there. Contrast and brightness settings can help SOME not lot's. Plasma's don't ghost at all, NONE. Plasma's are generally considered the best for HD, though the LCD is catching up quickly. CNET has some info on this issue if you dig around. GATS get up off the DASHBOARD and COD4 me sometime big boy! Oh, TANK and SHO_NUFF - EAT IT! HAAAAAA!
