Alright, the high definition satellite television is go. 

We have the Playstation 3 connected by HDMI, giving sound through the television, but I want to get it through my receiver via optical cable. 

I'll figure that out this weekend as the spouse plans to take the kids to the grandparent's house to give me a chance to get caught up on paperwork. 

I guess if I do four hours of paperwork Saturday morning and mid-day Sunday, it'll justify some good game time both nights, now that the college football season is wrapped aside from bowl games.

Bring it on.

Dish or Directv? I had Directv. I was very disappointed in the image quality, it's not even 720p. In order to save bandwidth they give you what is known as HD-Lite. The image looks great but it's not 1080i or 720p. The channel thats worth the money is Discovery in HD. Then the only thing I watched was CBS, ABC and NBC shows in HD. You will noticed how the CBS shows are better in HD than the other station shows.

You're suppose to hook the HDMI into your AV Receiver and then your AV Receiver has an HDMI out that should go to the TV which will split out the audio from the video. That's how it's suppose to work if you want full surround sound. I'm not sure how satellite TV works though, i've only ever had cable. I assume it's suppose to be the same way though the sat receiver is just another HD component. So it no doubt is suppose to plug inot your HDMI switching A/V Receiver and the video will travel to the TV over the HDMI out cable.

DirecTV is what we're on. So far I have been happy with the quality. The Onkyo unit I am using has HDMI passthrough, I believe, so I don't know if that would help much. I will keep looking at it.
