Shared on Thu, 12/06/2007 - 21:33I think I have lost my way.
Is there a tipping point for old gamers? Is there a time when we loose it all? The desire to play games?
I have been a long time fan of rpg's. Sadly I think much of my life was shaped because of these games. And if not my life then my mood.
There is something comfortable in having a good rpg to come home to. Problem is, now all the good games are mmorpg's. I haven't the time to spend playing these games. Funny how things change.
Last year I logged over 2700 hours in at my job.
I am pretty sure that I logged at least 1000 hours in WoW.
Then I quit. December 8th, 2006.
The allure of rpg's is the sheer volume of ways to increase your characters power.
With all of these mmorpg's they keep adding new content.
I am a grinder. I have always been a grinder. WoW became the never ending grind for me.
And then it was gone.
I tried a few other mmorpgs since and the result is always the same.
CoH, Stormreach, LOTR online, all hit on the same level.
I dusted off my PS2 this summer and gave FFX a go. After about 200 hours of leveling all of my characters I went after Jecht. Much easier this time around. But I noticed something. There was a finality to it. There would be a patch to add new items, or open new areas to explore. There wasn't going to be an expansion allowing me to have some new and wonderful powers.
I liked it. It was like reading the last page in a good book.
But has my desire gone?
This is where I need help. I need an rpg for the PC that has both depth and finality.
Help me find my way.
Thanks.
