Shared on Sat, 12/15/2007 - 10:05I got my son last night after work, and as some of you know I pulled a couple 13 hour shifts (boss did me a favor) so I could afford Rock Band for him for Christmas. The intention was to give it to him last night. Yes I know, its not Christmas yet. But as some of you also know, in the interest of quality checking I had...opened it...and...tested...each piece of equipment to verify the quality of what my son was going to receive for Christmas. So yeah, pretty much had to give it to him last night.
He was suspiscious about it, particularly after seeing the game on my profile. I had it set up though, I had told him ahead of time I found a place that rented the game on its own without the equipment. We have the GH2 guitar so its a plausible story. I did tell him I was going to give him his gift last night so he could have more time with it. And lets be honest, my son isn't up here anywhere near enough so that is true...I wanted him to have as much time with it as possible. I also have been sending him youtube videos of RB gameplay and commenting that we're going to have to figure out a way to afford it cause it looks really cool. So he had no idea he was getting this game at all.
So on the ride home last night I'm explaining that he'll like his present, but he'll get more use out of it tomorrow than he will tonight. See, I had been kind of dropping hints I got him a good-sized gift certificate for somewhere so thats what he was expecting. He was all good with it, he's the kind of kid that he would appreciate whatever you got him and would understand if you couldn't get him anything.
Now I had set the whole thing up in the bedroom in front of the tv. I put bows all over it and it was ready to go. So we get in last night and I ask him to plug in the tree and go ahead and grab his gift from under it. He plugs the tree in and sits on the couch. I ask if he has the gift, he says he didn't see it. So we both go to the tree and wow, whaddyaknow its not there!
So I tell him...darn, I must have left it in the bedroom when I wrapped it. Would you mind getting it out of there for me, you should be able to see it. So he walks in the bedroom, I see the light come on, I hear him stop dead in his tracks. Then I hear a soft "No way" followed by a louder "No WAY" and he comes running out of the room all giggly and gives me a huge hug. Then he heads in to play it, stops, turns around and gives me another big hug along with a "thank you SO much".
And then we spent the rest of the night having the time of our lives mugging with the game. All in all, a great night. :)
