According to the weather bureau some places around here may have gotten as much as 8 inches. So a few minutes after I wake up I go in the kitchen to make my son breakfast and he comes out to me and says he's got his mom on his cell and she wants to talk to me.
(I have my work cell but she's not getting that number)
I mumbled something about me having just gotten up and not being up for talking to her, so he finishes the conversation with her and tells me that she said she got a lot of snow down there and the roads are bad. I believe that, because back in the day when I lived down there it seemed their snow removal plan was simply "wait for spring". So according to my son she wants to just leave him up here.
I was supposed to get him again this Thursday, which is his last day of school before break. The way we break up the holidays at this time of year is different than the way most custody arrangements are. Keep in mind there's a signifcant distance between the households. When we went through the divorce she wanted to split it up Christmas Eve/Christmas like most people do. I didn't see the point in that. That would mean he would open his presents Christmas Eve at one place, pretty much not be able to do anything with them, go ride in a car for a couple hours. Yeah, happy holidays there. So what I had suggested, and what was ultimately accepted, was that we break it up by Christmas and New Years, and rotate every year. So Christmas holiday for us is defined by the period between his last day of school before break and the 28th of December. Then New Years is from the 28th until the day before he goes back to school. This way he can enjoy the holidays in each place and not be rushed between households. In short, he can relax and enjoy himself.
So anyway, this is my year for Christmas so I was going to pick him up this Thursday. But now it looks like she's willing to consider him "snowed in" and just leave him here til the 28th. I'm more than ok with that (so is he), my only concern is he told me he has a test tomorrow. He also said he can make that up, so I emailed my ex and let her know about this so she can mention this when she calls the school. So now I get an extra Christmas present this year...2 weeks with my son. :)
