This afternoon Cooper Power called me.  I had hoped it would be an offer, but it was instead to tell me that they really liked me but didn't have something concrete for me until after the holidays.  The HR woman then asked if I was interviewing anywhere else and I told her that I had interviews with 4 people at GE yesterday.  She wanted to know if they had made an offer yet or if I expected them to make an offer before the end of next week.  She made some comment about "trying really hard to pull things together, but it's tough tracking down all the right people during the holidays".

This has me cautiously optomistic that an offer is pending and that they are just trying to hash out the details internally.  Otherwise I can't imagine them calling me twice this week, simply to see how I'm doing.

It sure would have been a nice Christmas present to get an offer today...

Good Luck. But you don't tell the complete truth in those situations. You can say something like "I am interviewing with other companies." Don't give a specific example or company. Keep it general. If someone asks if you have an offer just say yes or no you currently do not have an offer. Unfortunately this happens often. A company is interviewing because a position might be opening and they want to see what the market is like. This spring after my sister graduated she had an interview with Kuryakyn, makers of some nice motorcycle stuff. They said they decided they were not going to hire someone at this time. Then a week after she got a job (a couple weeks later) they call her with an offer. I had it happen several times when I was interviewing. The other thing that sucks is if they call and say you are second in line if the other person doesn't accept.

Sounds like a good sign...I'm sure there are some companies that fuck around like that, but if they do - you probably don't want to work for them anyway...So I say, be honest and hope for the best! Good luck!
