Well, yes.
So, last night me and my wife were going to run to Boscov's Dept. Store to get her mother a comforter set for Xmas, she wanted a "Christmas" themed type thing. So I figure this is the best place to go. No problem, I was all set to go.
At which point my wife calls me and goes....hun...what's going on with this?
Never a good thing to hear from another room...
Everyone knows I am not exactly a home improvement guru, I don't know what the hell I am doing and I learn by doing things...tis the way of the world, so I was ready to go in and see that something I had done in the bathroom off our bedroom has broken or looked wierd or whatever.
What I didn't expect to see was water dripping from the glass on the ceiling light fixture.
I also didn't expect as I got up on a chair to see that the entire glass portion of the fixture had the same fluid content as my step-son's aquarium upstairs.
Yep, we got a leak. Not just any leak though, we had a leak in the new roof section that was just re-done when we bought the house.
This is the problem, the roof at this part of the house has a very mild gradient. Mild enough that the ice built up out of eyesite and prevent any melting snow from running off the room like it should have.
In essence, I had about 6 inches of solid ice, built up as a damn at the edge of the roof all the way across and 9 inches of snow and slush built up behind it.
The joy of calling my father at 7pm to ask to get my ladder back so I can get up on the roof in the dark to shovel and break u p ice with a hactchet.
My wrist is still swollen today.
I got all the buildup off in the danger zone and after I get done with call...after 5pm...after sunset again, I have to get up there and get the rest of it off.
I am trying to find a Thermal Cable roof de-icer that I can get set up so that it will prevent the ice from building up at the edeges of the house, but so far there is no place local that carries them. Lowes and Homedepot have let me down so far as do most of the hardware stores around here.
So looks like I am taking some measurements and ordering them off the internet.
A 60 foot heating unit however only costs about 45 bucks pre-tax, so with luck I can get one of those delivered in the next couple weeks...
What sucks is that in the meantime I have to get up there and clear it out every other day as the roof melts and flows and re-freezes.
I truly live a charmed life.
