Christmas Eve

We celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve.  It is a long-time family tradition, and I like it that way.  When I was a kid, we all sat with our noses pressed against the window watching for Grandma and the others to arrive.  Amazingly, Santa would come soon after that!  Funny, he always snuck in the back of the house and left presents in my parents bedroom.  Go figure!

Now, I am the grandparent, and the kids come to me.  They will be here in a couple hours.  Tradition has changed somewhat, cuz Santa does not arrive on Christmas Eve at our house.  He arrives in the traditional manner during the night at the kids' house.  But, tonight is a day of family gathering.  I have been cooking much of the day.  I always do holiday cooking from scratch.  So, the bread is done, the pecan pie is in the oven.  The carrots are cooked for glazing later.  The sweet potatoes, the same.  What else?  Yikes, gotta get that ham going soon.  Ahhhh, just taking a break.

Tomorrow, when everyone else in the world is having Christmas, I will be having a wonderfully quiet day.  Then, back to work Wednesday.  Ahhhhhhh.......
