So I'm still waiting to hear about the 3rd shift position. I talked to the manager this past week and he said he has 2 more candidates HR found him he has to interview, but he still wants me in there and he has the final say. So unless one of these guys blows him away, I guess the ball will start rolling. There's no hurry on it anyway, since I can't go til some time in February when this woman comes back from maternity leave. And if it so happens one of these candidates actually is good and does get the job, then thats ok too since its best for the facility.
I found out I was nominated (again) for this employee of the quarter type award we have. In a nutshell, there's a $200 Best Buy gift card in it for me if I win, so thats nice. Plus it looks good on the resume. And my current boss, the one who told me I didn't deserve the coordinator spot yet, is the one who nominated me. The wording he used in my nomination was nothing short of spectacular, really. Maybe he's finally realizing what all I do. Although the more I think about it, he's probably seen it all along but now he's seen its a sustained effort and not some flash-in-the-pan type of deal so that may bode well for me if the 3rd shift thing falls through. I'm not counting on it, but we'll see.
All things considered, I will say that this is BY FAR the cheapest, most indifferent company I've ever worked for. While I'll refrain from naming the company here (enough of you know what company it is anyway), I will say the fact that we're celebrating $5 billion in sales this year for the first time ever makes us somewhat huge. And to be this cheap, this unrewarding of the "grunts" if you will...shameful. Upper management is well taken care of, and while this may sound cliched let me promise you that us "little people" fix more stuff that the so-called braintrust fucks up...and I mean fucks up royally...than I can describe. And the way they compensate us for it is pathetic. At this point the only thing I can look forward to is resume-padding and waiting for the back to get better to start looking elsewhere. Things can always change of course, but this is where its headed.
Christmas was fun, how was yours'? Had the kid for a bit over 2 weeks, that was wonderful. My ex has been eerily pleasant the last couple weeks, even going so far as to drive all the way up to get him yesterday instead of us meeting halfway like we were originally supposed to. I'm guessing she's talked to her lawyer recently, which is the next point:
I got a call a few weeks ago from the States Attorney's office. They told me my ex's lawyer had offered a plea agreement, down from domestic assault (or battery, I forget) to just regular assault. I guess the domestic tag carries potential jail time and is a bigger blotch on the record than regular assault (or battery). The guy from the SA asked me what I wanted, and I told him plainly that I wanted her to get counseling. He said that was a given no matter what. I told him great, but I don't mean "2 sessions and done" bullshit, I want to see her in a long-term program. He assured me the minimum would be 26 weeks. That works. Then I weighed out the benefits to me of her being convicted on the sterner charges and really couldn't see any, nor could I see any benefit to my son if she happened to have additional jail time thrown her way, so I told them I was cool with pleading down.
So anyway, thats it in a nutshell for now. I got Seinfeld season 9 for Christmas from my son, and Kitty got me and my son Spiderman 3 on dvd. Yay, Kitty! We also purchased some DLC for Rock Band. Oh, and my son actually got a 360 at his mom's for Christmas, which is great. Of course next time he'll be taking Rock Band back with him (cause its his afterall) and I really don't think its a good idea to be transporting that setup across the state all the time, so if I should win that $200 gift card I'll be getting myself my own Rock Band. Well actually I'll give the new one to my son so he can just take the unopened box down with him.
In case this is the last blog for the year for me, I want to wish everyone a very safe holiday weekend and a happy 2008. Thanks for reading.
