Well, it's Erica's birthday today. I can't believe that it was a year ago that my life changed forever and I met one of the most amazing people in my life.  I am so blessed, so thankful that I have so much love in my life! "Erica" bought me a gift today. It's a frame with pictures of her every month around the edge, and one big one in the middle of her and I. Very sweet.  That Erica, so talented.  I was also reflecting on how my husband and I are much closer than before. I mean we were best friends, and perfectly happy before, but now! Yikes! SO happy.

Since my last blog, Erica has had a language explosion. She can SAY 12 words. The most recent? "Gshl--oooowwww" (Gshl--oooowwww=glow=glow worm). She is almost walking, she is super happy and just a treasure.

We had a bit of a scare yesterday. Before I start. let me say that everything is OK. As Sean was editting Erica's pictures, he noticed that one of them, she had very white eyes. He remembered that this was important to get checked out so he googled it. White reflection in pupils=eye cancer. Tumours block the back of the eye, so where you would normally have red eye, it's white, like a cat's eye. So he looks up more, realises Erica is probably OK, but tells me to ask the doctor about this when we go for her appointment. I look up this stuff, and have a small, well contained freak out. Short answer: we went to eye doctor today. Everything is fine, but I tell you, the internets can be a bad thing for parents. You get information, but sometimes too much. It's easy to self diagnose. and you never self diagnose for anything happy.

What else? Christmas was hectic. I hosted my family, then Sean's family came up. I love em, but I'm kind of glad it's just the 3 of us today.  Sean goes back to work tomorrow, I wonder how it's going to be with just Erica and I.  It's been a while.

Got COD4 for Christmas. I like it more than Halo. So far. I wa s on line once, and it's jsut so much faster than Halo, the maps are more tricky too.  We also got Burnout Revenge. We had it forthe PS2, but now we have the 360 version. It's fun to crash!  I have xbox points as well, so J-Cat is a happy lass!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!

PS: Erica's latest thing (I mena in the last hour) my husband says "Snarf, Snarf' and she crinkles her nose and sniffs in and out. I understand there were "boogers everywhere"

"Cat's eye" or leukokoria is characteristic of retinoblastoma (a tumor in the eye). It is an unusual finding, to be sure. A re-check with a fundoscope demonstrating a red reflex probably means that the photograph was a bit off in some way and caught an edge of the retina with less blood vessels and therefore more white appearing.

I'm glad that she's fine. My son ended up getting 4 new games for his Wii for Christmas.

Ya the internet is a very BIG help sometimes but the amount of information can be overwhelming, my wife had a small breakdown the other day thinking that my 3 year old might have some autistic tendencies, its not true BTW, but still she got pretty scared.

Both of my children have eye problems. The youngest was just diagnosed over Christmas break, and we had no idea that anything was wrong. We simply keep a check on him because of older sis. All of the pediatric ophthalmologists that we have ever seen say that it is important to have every child's eyes checked by 18 months because some eye problems, which can turn very serious when left untreated, may show no signs. No pediatrician that I, or any of my friends use, has ever mentioned this. So, it's great that you had them checked anyway!
