Shared on Wed, 01/23/2008 - 10:36Finished MOH Airborne. Not such a bad-ass shit-fest that I was expecting. While there was around seven Elite troopers in the area, they didn't pose as big a problem as expected. The first Elite you can just run past and forget about - he won't chase you (unless you go for the ammo/shotgun in the loft). The next two pairs marched lockstep, heel to toe, and were easily taken out by a few gammon 'grenades'. After those - just run until you find the detonator, trigger it, and boom! End of game.
Nothing to it. Three or four tries and I was done.
In other things found to be soft and painless but were looking to be, er, difficult and stressful, the markets didn't exactly crash yesterday. Sure, they dropped ~450 points on opening bell, but then recovered all but ~120 of them by closing. Yeah, yeah, a drop in the bucket of recession. Just a trifling thing on the slow slide toward oblivion.
While on the subject of slow slides towards oblivion, the HD-DVD format is sucking mud, or maybe quicksand, at any rate the format appears to be doomed. Doomed, doomed, doomed, doo- *bell rings* GO HOME NOW! Hmm, channeling Invader Zim. Anywho, it is looking like if you want to watch any of those new-fangled hi-def movies your best-bet is to buy a PS3 for the Blu-ray player. It has the player and the hardware to support whatever Sony decides to throw into the DRM ridden, region controlled, spyware laden, expensive as-all-get-out, garbage-disposal format that is Blu-Ray.
In local news, the media is reporting that the citizens of Florida are all confused about a property tax amendment. I'll go with that because I'm a bit confused and conflicted. Basically, and as I understand it, the amendment will change some property tax laws so that some property owners may save a bit on property taxes. Negative - at the expense of essential services such as, oh, Fire-Rescue, Police, Teachers and other government employees at city, county and state levels. So, maybe save ~$250 and lose some essential services as well as give a tax break to people owning multiple properties and the already wealthy, or not... OK, not so confused anymore.
A few other local goings-ons...The city has its bright, shiny, new library set to open this weekend. This thing has been in the works for so long now it isn't funny. It has been delayed by funding issues (see above), lawsuits, construction delays, land issues and anything else that can happen. Might as well name the place 'The Murphy's Law Library'. I'll have to try to get over there for some pictures before the crowds and taggers destroy the place.
The Republicans are coming! The Republicans are coming!Grab some buckets! Grab some thimbles! Hide the children! Hide the virgins! Lockup the liberals! (wait a minu-*clank*)... Yes, the Republicans are coming to town. The local college is hosting a national Presidential debate on Thursday evening. News crews, Secret Service, FBI and state/local law enforcement are already wound-up and causing issues. Minor for now, but wait until Thursday. This place will become one big hodge-podge of traffic problems, protests, arrests and, of course, fear-mongering. Grab the camera and bloggers badge and join the fun - can't wait.
Also happening on Thursday - the traveling WWII aircraft exhibit is due. It will only be two planes this time - a vintage B-17 Flying Fortress and B-25 Mitchell will be available for tours and 30-minute flights. Although I would love to take a flight, the cost is around $400. Yikes! I think I'll just grab the camera and take some inside & outside ground shots.
Hmm, anything else...? No? Well, there is always tomorrow...
