I was hopeful, but she was still at the vet's office under 24 hour observation. The look on the vet's face was pretty grim when I dropped her off that morning. When I picked her up after work last Tuesday he was as surprised as I was at how well Cocoa recovered. She's doing just fine now.
She's on three different antibiotics and one pain killer due to the multiple surgeries: the original spay, and then the emergency small intestine and omentum (sp?) repair. The vet said that she shouldn't run for two weeks and after the first week I can tell that's going to be the hardest part of the recovery for her. I take her for a walk on leash before dawn every morning and again at sunset when I get home from work. The animal hospital has a doggy daycare for $20/day so that's where she spends her afternoons while we're at work. They also walk her a couple times and keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn't get into any more trouble. So far so good.
The photo shows her in her new halo, the other one was opaque so the translucent one is less annoying to her. She is getting better about walking around corners. The first few days were pretty funny. You could hear her catching the halo on the wall as she took a turn too sharply. She's learning to make wide turns, but still catches herself when she gets excited. Any tips on repairing drywall are appreciated.
Well, that's it for the doggy blags for now. I'll get back to the blag rhymes soon. Thanks for tuning in.
