Personal Life meter: Seen better days.

Either way, got through the week and survived. Yippee. on a better note, the iPod touch came in yesterday. 32GB of full touchscreen glory. I'd take a picture of it, but all my camera have gone to Gadget Heaven. If you've held a iPhone, you're holding an iPod touch. The 32GB flash memory adds no width or weight to it. It is simply amazing. There are two complaints about it, yet it wasn't a dealbreaker for me.

#1 - No external speaker - It would be great if Apple got a slight clue and realized that sometimes, people don't want to listen to the iPod with their headphones. Maybe sharing a youtube video with a friend. A small tiny, cell phone sized speaker would be fantastic. There are cases where it would be great.

#2 -  I know it's coming soon, but some good applications not made by Apple would be great. i'd rather not Jailbreak my ipod. I really would like to have Amazon develop their own music store app that works like the Itunes Music store. I don't use iTunes' store and won't again until they go to all mp3.

All in all, it's great. having portable WWW and mail with Wi-Fi is pretty great and then having all 19gigs of my music with me is fantastic.

For a rub for all my buds here, the engraving on the iPod says this:

So, the GDC is this week and some cool announcements were....announced.

Gears of War 2: Pick up where you left off, tweak your pretty pretty skin, and let me love you once again.

Fable 2: Never finished part 1, very involved RPG's don't do it for anymore. But Co-Op? Me and my buddy will dig that.

Still alive on Rock Band: Yes....yes....yes!!!!!!!

Nintendo's Pay-per-play charge: Eh, I'll see how this plays out before a judgement. It could be bad but I don't think so. Nintendo is always vague on details whenever they announce something. Everybody gets a jalapeno in their taco and hates Nintendo...then Nintendo comes back and explains a little more and everybody's like "oh....that's not so bad"

Does nintendo make mistakes? Yes. Wii Friend Codes is an example. Virtual boy is an example. But on, this I'm holding out. XBox charges for service, let's see how Nintendo handles it.

I was offered an opportunity at my job to be a Presenter at the Georgia Education Technology Conference. We recently used a piece of software called SageTV to create a way to feed Comcast Cable to every classroom in a school. As opposed to standard video distribution, we developed a server and software to encode the cable signal and store, then classrooms could watch the content they want through their desktop computer hooked up to a 27" HDTV.

The first project, despite it's failed test, turned into a resounding success. The school loved, we loved it, the budget loved it. We are currently working on deploying a second server at another school. With the presenter opportunity, I get a chance to speak in front of 150+ teacher and computer techs and explain how we did it, why we did it, and how it works.

Pure fun.
