Mess it is! I mean I am clean enough: I swear I wash the kitchen floor every second day. but no one told me that a toddler could be so messy. no. Filthy. Like my Mom said "A home should be clean enough to be healthy, but messy enough to be happy". Check and Check.
I have been asked to do a bit of blogging, conversation stimulation for 2o2Flank. They are a clan that is heavy on the tactics, lead by Major Blunder and Texas Twister. They seem like a great bunch so far. I won't be gaming with them too much though; I have 2o4BS, and I barely have enough time to game with them. But the interesting thing is learning about tactics. These guys are pretty high end, BUT are very quick to teach people the ropes. As a FPS Newb, I am still learning well... everything. I got a msg from Lux during our last clan night "Jay short bursts". I guess my idea of spraying an entire clip of ammunition around my enemy was not working.
The point is I am very new at this whole FPS thing. But I have a curiosity and a willingness to learn. One question I had was about "balanced" vs "unbalanced" maps. I just am clueless about these things. I don't know what makes a map "good" or "bad", let alone "balanced" or"unbalanced". I get killed in any map. It's just what happens. When I sat and thought about it. I recognise that I know so little about FPS. So: if you have a newb in your clan. Here are some things to ensure that they know.
#1. The map. Take them through the maps, point out all the little details that you (as an experienced player) know of, but your newb will not. Remember: as a newb, we are just trying to stay alive, it's hard to compute lots of detail. Our heads are working overtime just to remember which is "throw grenade" and which is "sprint". And oh yeah. Short controlled bursts, I have to remember that.
#2. The weapons. In a lobby, call out to your newbs: hey this is a great map for x weapon, and not Y. I always get caught. I love the shotgun, but I use it in the wrong map.
#3. The game type. Remind your newb what the objective is. Judge whether or not they want help. If they do, don't be afraid to tell the newb waht to do, where to go. Remeind them that they are part of the team!
That's about it so far. I am writing a preview for Alone in the Dark. Anyone else waiting for this?
