Almost two years ago, you broke my heart. The news reports came across the wire that you had been pegged to play Iron Man. That hurt my deeply, Robert. You see, I never could look past the goofy and quirky parts you played during the 80's (or as you call them, the blurry years) to see you taking on the role of my favorite superhero. Granted that anybody in my position would have a hard time finding somebody to play the role they hold in such a high regard, but I was certain you were going to be a failure at this. I was certain that Iron Man was going to flop bigger than the Fantastic Four 2 did. My friends tried to convince me to give you a chance, and I said no way.
Then the trailer came about. How could you pull off Tony Stark so magnificently? Your mannerisms, your quips, they were perfect. Could this really be the saving grace? Could you REALLY be the one to bring Iron Man to life?
The 2nd trailer hit, your story is shaping up to be quite the blockbuster. It's unbelievable the following this is gathering. This defies logic! You weren't supposed to pull it off!
In 2 years time, you had changed my mind about you, Downey Jr. You had me believing that you were Tony Stark and that you WERE Iron Man.
Fast Forward to May 1st, 2008. The day before the big premiere. Some theatres decided to release it early at 8pm. I got the 11pm showing. I sat back and watched in wonder as you, Robert Downey Jr, the geek from Weird Science became Tony Stark before my own eyes, and then morphed into my favorite superhero: Iron Man.
Bravo Robert Downey Jr. You have done well sir. I applaud the marvelous work you did in Iron Man. I ask for your forgiveness for doubting you. Here's to Iron Man II. May it be just as awesome.
Sincerely,
Me.
Saw Iron Man last night, in case you didn't see. IT WAS FREAKING AWESOME! Go see it, it is worth the 9 bucks for the ticket. And make sure you stay until AFTER THE CREDITS! You'll thank me later.
Now I'm going to bed cause I gotta be at work at 8am :) wheee!
