Phil Harrison is a magnet for failure.

Atari reports $23.6 million net loss for the last fiscal year.

The Playstation 3 is arguably the most advanced console ever produced. With over 100 million units of the Playstation 2 installed around the globe, Playstation is one of the most recognized brands in our modern day. My 84 year old grandmother knows what a Playstation is. Yet, the launch of the Playstation 3 was one of the most abysmal failures in history for a major product. This is due in large part to the myriad of indecision, SKU confusion, pricing, stiff competition from Microsoft and Nintendo, and a seeming total lack of direction.

Granted, Atari had its share of problems before Harrison arrived, but I can't help but ponder it's not going to get any better.

Browse through these Phil Harrison gems. Here are some of my favorites:
Phil - "Nintendo knows its target audience, because it has really narrowed that down; and it's pretty much defined by a boy or girl's ability to admire Pokemon."
Reality - May 2008 NPD Numbers:

Hardware

675k - Wii
453k - DS
209k - PlayStation 3
187k - Xbox 360
182k - PSP

Software

871k - Grand Theft Auto IV (360)
787k - Mario Kart (Wii)
688k - Wii Fit (Wii)
443k - Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3)
295k - Wii Play (Wii)
171k - Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)
131k - Iron Man (PS2)
117k - Guitar Hero III (Wii)
107k - Pokemon MD: Explorers of Darkness (DS)
102k - Pokemon MD: Explorers of Time (DS)

Phil - "Nobody will ever use 100% of PS3's capability"
Reality - OMFG dude. Are you serious? ...and 640K of RAM is all anyone would EVER need.

Phil - “There's always going to be a risk when you are market leader for ten years that we start to lose perspective; and we have to make sure that we don't lose perspective. But I don't think we're arrogant, I think we have to recognize that we're in a highly competitive industry and that anything that we say will be eternally editorialized by professionals and consumers alike. So we're always in the spotlight.”
Reality - See above...failed launch.

Phil - "I believe that the Sixaxis controller offers game designers far more opportunity for future innovation than rumble ever did. Now, rumble I think was the last generation feature; it's not the next-generation feature. I think motion sensitivity is."
Reality - Yeah...we all know how that turned out.

Phil - "The Xbox 360 doesn't play high definition movies and doesn't have true HD functionality - PlayStation 3 is the only format that has 1080-progressive, which is the true definition of HD"
Reality - *Correction* He did say this before the Xbox 360 had 1080p support. At the time of his statement there were only a handful of 1080p sets on the market and they required a $1000 - $2000 premium over your 720p and 1080i sets.
