Karma

Believe in it?  Think it's a load of hogwash and things just happen as they happen?  For me, I'm probably somewhere in between.  Do I have any proof that Karma exists?  Of course not.  But I don't think it's bad to think that if you treat people well, and live up to a solid standard that you want to, then at some point in time - either known or unknown to you - it will come around to your benefit.

Well, yesterday I tossed out a few good deeds that I'm sure will do me well in the future.  I had put the car in the shop to finally get my A/C fixed after 2 years of windows-down, sweatin' out the oldies during the summers.  I figured I have another 3 years with the car, at least, so time to bite the bullet and be comforable during my commute.  When I put the call in to see if it'll be ready on time, my mechanic tells me he's got some bad news.  While working under the dash, the passenger side front door was blown closed by the wind, and put two cuts in the armrest on the door.  He asked whether I wanted a new one to replace it, or for him to knock $80 off the bill.  Well, when he told me that, I thought he meant a pretty good cut I put in the same panel several years ago while moving a TV in the front seat.  So, being the good guy and knowing how damn valuable a good, trusting mechanic can be, I fessed up that it was already there, and wasn't their fault.  He was very appreciative, so hopefully he'll remember it and stay on the straight and narrow as we give him work over the years.

Then, and one that was more difficult to pony up to do, was sending my family up to Massachusettes yesterday morning so my wife would surprise her father on Father's Day.  I love the idea that she can be there for him where she rarely sees him (we're about 5.5hrs away), but it did smart to have my own kids gone for the day.  I got in as much fun with thim as I could admists the packing and running around in the morning, and saw them off just before lunchtime.  I know my wife really appreciates it, and I'd do anything for her.  I just didn't think the personal  price would have been quite as smarting as it turned out to be yesterday afternoon and evening.

But now, maybe the karma for that comes to me as I can do whatever I want, eat whatever I want, watch whatever I want for the next week and a half.    On the menu for tonight - blackened Blue Cheese Burgers and a salad.  Mmmmmm.

Hope all the fathers out there had a special day, and enjoyed the time with their little ones!
