Rather, one to talk briefly about getting back into some games - and one in particular - that I played the snot out of in times gone by, but then sold off for 'the next big thing' only to recently re-buy the title on the cheep. Earlier this week, I got the pang of nostalgia and headed to GameStop to pick up copies of Gears of War (scored the CE) and Shadowrun. Together the bill ran me $50...less than a regular priced game for two titles that spent a ton of time in my console back when they came out, and based on the past few nights, will do so again.
I'll just say getting in on the Gears Monday night brawl with AoW was a blast. Great group of people, made me feel like a total n00b again, and didn't bother me to feel that way. However, the highlight for this blog will be the later game, and according to that So-and-so's 360 Can Blog site, the game that's earned the most play time from me period, Shadowrun.
Unfortunately, with the dissolution of the developer way back when, future support for the title is zip. However, from my perspective, it's more than solid enough as it stands to get played again ad naseum. I simply LOVE the mechanics of the game. I love the idea that there are for dramatically different races, each with pros and cons and racial abilities to use for your benefit. Then toss in two distinct trees of 'stuff' to buy, plus weapons, from round to round ... and that's buy, not "run around like an ass to be the first to a spawn point". It's not who can get to the Torque Bow first, or who knows the fastest way to the Laser Beam-o-Death. It's a strategic choice of which weapon you want to roll with any given round. I love that, if for no other reason than I never could be the first in those games where spawn points were key.
Finally, because of all the choice above, it makes it so every round can really be a different experience. In getting my legs under me the other night, I tried each of the races, and found out renewed how different they were. The Elf Ninja came back pretty easy, but man did I forget the right way to play with the Dwarf (no comments from the peanut gallery on that! ). Oh yeah...forgot to mention...the game is also heavily supported over at AGErocks.com, which lead to multiple full or near-full rooms all last night and each Wednesday. Gaming with other adults FTW.
All in all, can already see this will be money dramatically well spent which, in todays economy, is getting more and more important. Hell, I'll be my eldest picks up a copy with some of his b-day money. For $15, you just can't beat it.
