Morgan Freeman Sold Out

I was very fortunate to watch two movies this weekend: Wanted and WALL-E. - some SPOILERS! Nothing major

---------------------------

Wanted is worth every dime of the $10 admission. It's a little long in some parts - I don't really need to know the depth of depraved actions that caused some members to join the fraternity. The ending is excellent - Angelina Jolie is wonderous - seriously, she does this little amused thing with her eyes when things are really tough and it works. There is some slow-motion work that is done, but it isn't overused, and man they do it well. There is a particular screen shot I am DYING to find - where he smacks his buddy across the face with the keyboard and the letters fly off, covered in blood, spelling FUCK YOU.

But Morgan Freeman sold out. I saw it coming from the end credits dance from Evan Almighty. Maybe he was always like this, maybe he is just jealous of Sam Jackson. But it was so off-putting and out of character when he drops a MotherFucker during one of the last scenes, then says Fuck again at the end of the movie. It felt weird hearing it, he seemed weird saying it. Did they write the part for Sam Jackson, then pulled in Ms. Daisy's driver at the last minute??? I didn't like it one bit.

---------------------------

WALL-E - They didn't push the environmental stuff as bad as I thought they would. It's cute, it's sweet, it's entertaining. Both my 7 year old and my 3 year old really enjoyed it - and so did I. It amazed me that the first half of the movie, there is no dialogue - just Wall-E. Then you get a little bit between Wall-E and Eve, but its just three words (Wall-E, Eve, Directive). The kids were still fixated on his actions and adventures, and Pixar really outdid themselves as far as showing emotions like concern, happy, and fear.

It seemed forced from him. He is an excellent actor. And I don't think dropping a MF bomb was necessary to get across the anger and disgust that he had for the Wesley character. It just seemed out of place.

I've heard him curse in other movies. He sometimes pops up as a not so endearing character. Still, I see what you mean. Ever since Driving Miss Daisy, you kinda expect him to above that. Eh... fuck it, I don't care, I still like him. :)

Well he was playing the leader of a guild of assassins. I don't think an 'Oh, my stars' would have cut it. Especially at the end.

I don't think that is selling out...I like to see actors actually play different parts in different movies. That's what makes them actors - good ones that is...Otherwise you have d-bags like Ben Stiller and Will Ferrell that play Ben Stiller and Will Ferrell in every. single. movie. they're. in.
