From Batman back to Bruce Wayne

Wow, I go to work on Monday. Let's all say that again: JayCat actually goes to work on Monday. This is the first time I have posted these words and I am frightened by them.

I was talking with my buddy Amy tthis morning, she and I started at Health Canada on the same day, we were on mat leave together and are all around good friends. We were talking about how much things have changed for me in a year and a half. First of all I joined 2o2p on my first day of Mat leave, you you guys all know me as a) a gamer and b) a Mom. I was none of these things the last time any of my coworkers saw me.  Well, I was a gamer, but not on line gaming, and now nearly as rabid as I am now.

At Health Canada, there were no gamers. Well there is one guy but he is a PC gamer and so doesn't count (I kid, I Kid!). I will be alone, with no one to discuss the latest Too Human demo, XBLive avatars or how much I am intrigued by Mirror's Edge. The  other weak thing about HC is that they have fiercely protected firewalls. I will not be able to access 2old2play, or gamefocus. So I not only start a new job, but I am sort of leaving a community. I have this odd dual life, and now I am going back to my other persona. Basically, I have spent hte last year and a half being Batman, now it's morning, and Bruce Wayne has a board meeting at 9:00. Come to think of it, are there any comic book chicks with two lives? On a side note: I am under the deillussion that I look like Ms Marvel. 

But back to reality. Monday, I go back to work for Health Canada, in my role as a civil sevant. I used to LOVE my job. I truly enjoy helping Canadians, it brings me joy to know that in a sea of red tape and nonsense, I can be a shoulder to cry on and the voice of reason.  Will you be able to get through the system with bad science and a junk product? No. But I can at least take away some of the more mundane stumbling blocks and ensure that you have a real life person to talk to. But that was all back then. What of today?

I have a new passion, gaming and writing about gaming. I won't be able to do it during the day, but there are still so many more hours in which to play. So, while Bruce Wayne is at the board meeting, listening to senior VPs rave about synergies and empowerment, inside will be Batman, daydreaming about jumping in the Batmobile and running through the Gotham night.
